hi all again,

         One day in a few years time i might actually answer some questions for some newbies but at the moment i'm the newbie so i need so much information, so heres yet another question...... how deep should i dig the potato plot as ive started ive come across soil which i cant work out whether its clay or not as it seems to break up like slate all replys greatly appreiciated

I just break up the soil where the tats are to be planted. Then i put a line across the soil to help keep the row straight. Next i make i shallow hole with a dibbler for each seed spud and plant the required space apart so that the top of the seed spud is level with the surface of the soil. Next i cover the spuds with loose soil (earthing up) to about 6" then as the plants grow keep the soil close to the top of the plants until they are ready.

Yeah it's quite straight forward, you cant go far wrong. Just remember to keep them earthed up to keep the daylight off the spuds.
