  don't know ... but why don't you call in some of your local garden centres and nurseries and ask them, or see if there is a local stockist in your area that specialises in apple trees?  They are usually a mine of helpful information and I'm sure they would only stock trees that are likely to do well there.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.

Have a look round your site and see what your fellow plotters are growing

Apples are pretty hardy, some more than others mind you.  You can get trees which are multi purpose eg eater and cooker so saves you buying two trees  :D

or could you not get a duo or family apple tree which has more than one variety grafted onto the root stock

yes but they're dead expensive  :D

My trees are generally from Lidl. They only stock the bog standard varieties but these are fine for the plot, dwarf rootstocks too. £3.99 each

Common Ground have some useful information here about orchards in Northumberland. Also some information about the Northern Fruit Group who publish a leaflet entitled "suggested Fruit Cultivars for the North".

Coxes don't grow well in our northern climate - if that's the sort of taste you're after, go for russets or similar varieties
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The problem with these trees is that eventually the one dominant variety takes over the whole tree and the other varieties die off. So, what you eventually end up with might not be what you really want - and for a very expensive price. These trees were hot sellers here about 20 years ago and now you have to search to find any for this reason.
