I have had Pigeons nibbling at my Mangetout peas which are just coming into flower too!
Will go down to plot and inspect tonight, I did tie the plants up more so parts weren't on the ground that they could reach...mind you I expect the freezing cold gales we had over Bank Holiday have done more damage!!!
(afraid to go and look! visions of bean wigwams and sweetcorn battered down!)

I have had Pigeons...

Well she is not a happy bunny - I can tell. She does all the sowing and tending and he does most of the planting. He planted the peas on Friday - they were grown in a gutter, like him on the telly did. Went in a treat.
Did you net them? she asked. He gave her a funny look. Wha?
Well, she has just been out there and had a look - she has a fine row of stalks. No a leaf in sight and its been raining and blowing a gale all weekend. Can't use the fast moving lead, sauce pan technique as there is a lady with a small child on the next plot ...

Pigeons or sparrows?  She will have to move Hector into position. He really does seem to do the trick - he (a cat made out of chicken wire and a black plastic bag) has been guarding the purple sprouting and things and keeps the birds off a treat, as does the Dork (started life as a flying Hawk but finished up looking like a Duck).

Men .... if you want something covered, do it yourself ...
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

I have just been watching Victorian Kitchen Garden,And they were cussing the pigeons. He said they had the staff in the old days to net up,but it took him half the day to net up now. Seems no one likes those birds. :(
