I was told mine is 5 rods, its 9x9m, 30'x30', 81sqm. Dont' know if I'm being diddled out of land, but I still haven't had the paperwork and charges yet.

It's a bit smaller than 5 rods

30 x 45 ft is 5 rods

Almost right. We start getting muddled as we get old!!! It should be rod, pole or perch. A peck is a volume measure which I think is a quarter of a bushel. ( 4 pecks to the bushel, 8 bushels to the quarter. A quarter of barley weighed about 1 hundredweight, wheat a little more).

A standard allotment is usually referred to as a 10 pole allotment. It is not technically correct and should in fact be called 10 square poles, about 300 square yards. Yours is 21 poles (7 x 3) and I imagine it was originally two 10 pole plots. The extra bit might be due to the dividing path being included.

I have just read in a magazine that a 'rod' was the length of the stick needed to reach the leading oxen in a plough team.

Presume that pole comes from the same thing. Anyone any ideas what why 'perch'?
