No Babe - no problem...

I'm going to calmly leave the room now... easy Babe don't pick up the knife - I know it's pretty but Brian wouldn't like it..

Can you put chicken poo and woodshaving in the compost bin?  I thought wood shaving were bad for compost !?

Wood is carbon, chicken poo is nitrogen. Ideal compost has both as a mix. The poo ignites and the wood is the fuel. Too much of any one thing usually results in a mess so balance in all things.

Sorry to raise another poo question but here goes.  I wanted to put a compost bin in my hen run, I can site it behind a shrub  8)   Will it be ok to put just the poo on its own or will it get rank and flyblown.  Or should I bung in the aubiose or newspaper??

Is it a good idea to have the compost bin actually in the run.  It's 8 metres long by about 4 m wide.

Not sure about aubiose (is it organic material?) but I put all the straw/woodshavings/poo straight into the compost bin - main reason I got the hens in the first place

And I've posted this on a different thread before but thought it worth a re-run ...

Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

the hens won't be able to get in the bin so the worms will be safe  :D
Aubiose is leftovers from the flax industry so I assume it will rot down quite well but I didn't know whether to add the lot or just put the poo in the bin, to make the best finished chicken manure.

Also should I site the bin in their run or as far from it as possible, thinking of flies which might be attracted. Mind you the lids fit tightly on the dalek type bins  :?
