I have just finished shifting the last 20 bags of muck that a local horse owner has left for me.  I now have a full compost bin, 30% rotted for over 12 months for this year and 70% new muck for next year.  Have popped some carpet on to get the heat going.  Am waiting for hot water to get going so I can have a nice warm bath.

I tried a bit of digging but ground is too wet to seperate weeds from soil and don't want to leave in that dreaded bindweed.  Just thought I'd share that with you.  And my aquaduce beans are 2 inches high!!!

I cannot wait to get sowing.  I have a greenhouse, does anyone have any suggestions of what I can be sowing?

These are all the seeds I bought:

•   Celery - Victoria
•   Cabbage – Pyramid F1 Hybrid
•   Spring Onion - Ishikuro
•   Beetroot – Red Ace
•   Carrots – Autumn King Improved
•   Leeks – Oarsman F1 Hybrid
•   Brussel Sprouts – Trafalgar F1 Hybrid
•   Savoy Cabbage
•   Borecole – dwarf green curled
•   Cabbage - Greyhound
•   Lettuce – Ultimate Mixed
•   Salsify
•   Aubergine – Black Enorma
•   Dwarf Beans - Delinel
•   Salad Turnips - Oasis
•   Courgette – Defender F1 Hybrid
•   Pumpkin – Jack of All Trades
•   Calabrese - Belstar
•   Lettuce - Cassandra
•   Scorzonera
•   Cauliflower – Graffiti 1 Hybrid, Cheddar F1 Hybrid and Nessie F1 Hybrid
•   Parsnips – tender and true and Exalibur F1 Hybrid
•   Cabbage – Kilaton F1 Hybrid
•   Marrow – Bush Baby
•   Sweetcorn – Conqueror F1 Hybrid
•   Cauliflower – Walcheren Winter Pilgrim

  I have no idea if I like the taste of all of these but I am new to all this and got a bit carried away with the catalogue and my birthday money!!!

If you are very much itching you could try a tray of some of your Japanese onion and mixed lettuce seeds for some early salads in a cool, well lit windowsill. Not much else yet, I'm afraid. Even that could wait a couple of weeks.

You could try some of your aubergines in the greenhouse
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Dunno, give them a whirl. All you've got to lose is a few seeds.

Nice selection LMS that should keep you busy.  Got my spuds out of the dark this week to put in trays for chitting and 2 of the varieties have started to chit already, i hope it stays fairly cold for a while as i don't want them to get too big too soon.

Cheers Cawdor.  I have no potatoes yet.  Had a chat to the bloke on the plot who told me to hang fire as we are high up and exposed.  I have never done this chitting marlarkey before and am unsure: 1. Where to get them from, 2. What to do with them and 3. What type to get.

I have been making notes from other people's threads.  Any suggestions? I may PM RobtheRake as he is only a few miles away.

Now that's a good idea, as he is a dead nice bloke and also knows his onions :!:

if there is no spud fair near to you - just get spuds from your local garden centre

LSM, there are so many varieties of potatoes and everyone has their favourites.  I am growing Charlotte, Nadine, Lady Balfour, Anya and Cara this year and have tried to avoid ones highly susceptible to blight but if you ask the forum you will get many different ones.  Most catalogues will help with some advice.

Hi LMS, if I've got your location correct, this nursery (E) on the map and the listing, (scroll down for listing) is very close to you. May be worth a ring.

And, as said, there's always Rob!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
