Hi Everyone - Merry Christmas
Just spent time with my chooks, and really looked them over for the first time in several weeks - because of heavy rain and snow and frost.  Dismayed to discover that most of the six girls have developed scaly legs I think.  Raised scales and in one instance the leg looks a bit distorted.  Three of them have just gone through a moult and the wing feathers are still growing back on my white sussex.  A couple of the other girls are still in the process of moulting.  I know that they can shed leg scales during a moult, but am inclined to think this is leg mite.  Please could you suggest a remedy?  I had a case in the past and treated the Maran with vaseline for a couple of weeks which worked but not completely.  Any help would be much appreciated?

hi , it may possibly be scaly leg mite and there are sprays u can get to help clear them away an prevent them in the future  for now i would carry on with the vaseline until u can get some spray .

look for barriers scaly leg treatment .

A good product is Benzyl Benzoate, available from your local chemist just paint on with a little paint brush twice a day for a couple of weeks, should sort the problem out. Make sure the henhouse is cleaned with a product like poultry shield to destroy any mites in the bedding material.
