Allotment planning
« on: July 22, 2008, 21:17 »
Hi, I'm a new forum member, and fairly new to veg growing. I've grown my first vegetables this year after turning half my back garden into a plot - didn't realise how big the plants would grow and have very quickly outgrown in!! Just signed up for my first allotment and want to make sure it's planned well for next year. Any tips? Should I dig over and cover with black plastic to get rid of weeds till nxt yr?

Hi Bean_queen welcome to the forums  :D

Sounds like a decent plan try to add some organic matter if you can, you could plant through the plastic next year if you wanted.

have a look at www.growveg.com   it's got a fantastic online tool that helps you with planning your allotment layout and crop rotation etc.  I got the link to it from somewhere on this website but not exactly sure where!

I've just started using it without reading the tutorials and haven't found anything that is a problem yet.  It could probably do with being loaded up with some more vegetables but all of the main ones and many less grown items are on there.
