Poundland Help
« on: March 24, 2014, 21:13 »
I'm not working at the mo, so don't want to keep driving to Poundland on the off-chance so wondering if you lovely people who pop in there could keep an eye out and let me know when they have the stacking towers back in stock? Specifically looking for the 3 "sided" ones rather than the 4's to add to what I bought last year.

Thanks in advance!

That's them GrannieAnnie, and exactly what I intend to grow in mine (need something to put the 42 new Aldi plants in)!

Thanks ever so much!

Michelle, make sure you put lots of water retaining crystals in with the compost  It dries out sooooo quickly!   ;) ;)

Here's another pic!  Hopefully up the right way as it went sideways just now! lol

oh well, I give up, it won't rotate!  :(

Thanks Grannie - I know what you mean about them drying out (even with some water retaining gel) - I have a 7 tall stack from last summer and yes they do, although not as quickly as my previous tower (see pic) always struggled to get water to the bottom of that one! Only problem I had with the poundland one last year was it's "magical" ability to fall over when either  I (or the wind) was a little too heavy handed with it. This year hubby is going to "do something" to make it more sturdy apparently!

Basic rule for any tower make it no more than 3 x the minimum based dimension - that's why alloy access towers have outriggers - now do you really want outriggers on your strawberry tower  :nowink:

Putting a long piece of drain pipe down the centre of the compost, with holes drilled in it at regular intervals (largish holes, not tiny pores  ) to water into helps the plants at the bottom get their share of water.

Poundland sell water retaining gel too!

I haven't been for a while and have found that even reasonably local stored vary in what they stock and when.

The stacking system looks really good.  How did you put them together are they just stacked.

They literally just sit on top of each other, so long as you put the next one in the "gaps" of the lower one, they literally just sit on thanks to a great design.

Poundland has a web site where you can see which products they have and also sign up for their newsletter

Thanks Hamsterhead - unfortunately even though they are in some of the shops they are not showing on-line.

O/h had to go to the tip today, and there is an out of town poundland nearby - unfortunately none in stock, so then swung by the Basingstoke town centre store and none there either :-(
