i have loads of small black slugs and i was told they didnt like going over gravel that and over sharp objects well they love my gravel and have crawled up a hedge to get to stuff i had ontop of the hedge , how do the know its there can they smell stuff

A very good question that. It can't be their eye-sight as it's not that wonderful so it may well be sense of smell. Worth investigating... It could lead to a new slug deterrent.

“Slug Off”    Something with a pong to put the little blighters off.

It would make a great science investigation for primary school aged children.  ;)

I have just finished cutting back various ferns, and found 2, 1 big fat one, and 1 smaller blighter, in 1 of the plants.  They have both been dealt with.  Mrs Bouquet

Some of those pesky little snails actually have special status as endangered species.

I've no idea which ones but all of them are in danger in my garden.
