interesting, someone asked me if putting wood ash on the brassica plot would  be as good as liming

It would certainly raise the pH. Not sure what loads of potassium would do to brussel sprouts of cabbages tho!!

I've always found that fresh ash temporarily slows down the plant's growth so I always tell people to age the ash a bit first. But never, regardless of the ash age, put on too much.

I read somewhere that mixing wood ash with human urine makes an excellent plant food. It probably pongs a bit though :ohmy:

Yes , it would - its basically potassium salts + urea which is essentially how they make fertilizers. You'd need a lot of wee wee though  :wacko:
