Jsut starting out and have a bed prepared to sow some sweet corn...it is better to put in in straight or use a pot to grow it first

I'd start them in a pot - greenhouse would be good - you'll get better germination & can be assured of no gaps.

i did a method i saw in a book, i think it is mentioned lots on this site, where you put the seeds in a dark place, in a container with dam tissue on the bottom and top and as soon as the sweetcorn start shooting put them in small pots. i found this really successful and all mine came up.

I'd second the chitting on and damp cloth approach. It works very well and you always get a good set of seedlings out of it.
