We have this rose in the garden.  It is an old rose - variously described as a bourbon and a hybrid perpetual.  David Austin may well sell it - but he did not breed it.

none of the roses seem to last do they  :(

I have this one in the garden from David Austin and it lasts better than the others I have :)...not for ages, but a bit longer  ;)

Thats nice mum, similar to the one in my avatar but cant recall its name, but it did come from David Austin.

I've spoken to them about making them last and they say they have no problem, most unhelpful really.  I wonder what they mean by ' last'.  Mine seem to go dull almost straight away and the petals start to fall after a day or so.
I do what the books say do, like putting the cut ends into boiling water or bashing the stems with a hammer altho i use the rolling pin, but they never look much for long once picked.
I think a big vase full of cosmos and gypsophila does just as well  much easier, much cheaper and lasts a week :D

That is nice Yabba :)

Dahlias have been a bit out of fashion haven't they, but seem to by coming back in.  No wonder, that bloom looks very trendy and modern and they last well in a vase  ::)

How do you keep the earwigs off them

Well, the organic side of us tries swearing and plucking off the earwigs ( damn they move fast and can hide in the most obscure places!) ... the inorganic side uses far more swear words and enough chemicals to raise the dead, given a decent enough voltage on the lightening strike :D

It is a cute bloom though huh? ... it's years of helping my mate grow those that led to me growing the veg I do now ;)

I bought a couple of new dahlias last year.  Cant remember the name but they looked a lovely colour on the packet but in reality they look like a dirty smelly dish cloth, gray and dingy.  They're making better plants this year so i hope the colour will be better, or is that wishful thinking
