No not just you,
Worst year I can remember for growing, had a half decent early spud crop and a wonderful crop off weeds best ever

Ah well there's always next year, I'm just keeping on top of the weeds and clearing my 2nd plot for this, if anything else crops then I'll just think  I'm lucky.

But saying that there's loads of fruit on the plums, apples etc that surround my plot  :D
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Was using this year as my first year of rights and wrons, was supposed to be a learning year and all I've learnt is a shed load of rain will ruin really everything!

similar experience at this end, but it is only my first year as well!
I didn't realise so many pests could exist - do these things live in the soil and just wait for the right veggies to come along?  mind you, as I find them so tasty (the veg that is) unsurprising that lots of critters and crawlies also do.

This is why it's so important to put into a plan of crop rotation, some do sit in the soil waiting for the right veg to come along mostly viruses, moulds etc insects are a bit more mobile   but still do live or hibernate in the soil, another good reason to dig your plot over in the autumn lets the birds and frosts at 'em.

It is our first year so we don't know it the weather has ruined our stuff, or we are just dodo at growing things

We have had good broadbeans and strawberries but that is about it I'm afraid. There is hopefully some sweetcorn on the way and the plum trees are bursting.

Can't keep up with the weeds at all.

it's not you - the weather has been bad - especially for beginners to try and get to grips with this growing lark

you just have to try and understand why something has failed - if the weather is the problem then you can protect your plants from the elements

pests were always going to be prevalent this year - what with no cold winter to kill them off - and this up and down of hot and cold, wet and windy - it's heaven for fungi / bacteria - there were a few chats / threads about this a month or so back - giving preventative advice

use the forum ask questions - take notes if you have to - veg is relatively easy to grow -in my experience (limited   ) it is more difficult to get it right with particular flowers - they are much more temperamental

Yep totally agree it's been a bad year for just about everyone I've got twice as much ground working as last year and about half the crop slugs mould blight all hit my crops this year as well as the heavy rain knocked all my onions down

Don't worry next year will be better and you learn a lot when you have to fight the conditions

Our desiree potatoes are not supposed to be ready til September. The foliage has died off already. (plot secretary says it isn't blight, although it has been reported on other parts of the site). I dug one up to see what they are like. Unfortunately they are only the size of grapes.

Our other lot of potatoes were flooded. Floating stuff landed on em and killed em all.

Nothing fits, it's all the wrong size and in the wrong place
