I have a bantam who has been shaking her head the last few days, as if trying to shake something out. She has been broody recently and I noticed she'd lost a few feathers off her chest while trying to stay in the henhouse, but put it down to her trying to brood. Cured that after a week by finally taking drastic action and putting her in a different run for the afternoon. She hated being separated and hasn't been away from the other two since! I noticed today - five days later - that she's lost a few feathers around her neck but am at a loss to think how she's pulled those out. She's eating well again, very vocal and active. Not laying again yet, though.  Might she have earmites? Is it something else I'm missing? Would be very grateful for some advice.

I would take her for a check up to a vet just to be sure.

Thanks for the advice. Was all set to follow it, then the next day she stopped shaking her head and also stopped losing any more feathers. Then three days later she laid again. Am thinking she was having a partial moult and itching, hence the head-shaking. Will be keeping an eye on her though, but she now seems right as rain again.
