Hi everyone just a quick question some of my toms have a huge dark spot at the base,its on differen types but all were grown from seed.Just got the allotment this year and thrilled with the results just picked beetroot tonite and will pickle it after corrie.  Irene

Sounds like blossom end rot, a calcium deficiency often caused by erattic watering.

Does it look like this?

spot on if you pardon the pun. these toms are in the allotment and hubby waters them maybe i will water them after this. Is it too late for the rest or can they be saved?

The others could well grow OK, so don't give up on them and the bit of the tom with no spot is still edible.

The photo by the way, was taken a couple of years ago at Mole's Seeds open day, so not even the experts always get it right!
