Have now harvested about six. They have grown in the last month to about 8" diameter and are simply gorgeous. We have them par-boiled and then sliced and shallow fried in oil. Will grow them again in the polytunnel

Do try it DigIt - I had never grown them before.  I started them off in modules and transplanted them and it was dead easy.  Having said that, I was disappointed with the size of them when I dug them up as they looked bigger than they actually were.  Next time, I will dig it a lot more compost/manure to help bulk them up, as it seemed to work for CheshirePhill

I probably will give it a go again, Barbarella.
I use celeriac a lot in stews etc and it would be good to have our own

I have found that celeriac needs a long growing season above all - so I always start it off under heat in February..... pot on then plant out.

For everyone, its always a matter of fine tuning growth needs to your own soil and climate. What works in Yorkshire won't work in Devon, etc. Nor did the erratic climate this year help matters.

It's a lovely veg that's little used these days, and costs a lot at the shops, so do keep trying.

Missed it - what did it say?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

No growing tips really but they put the success of their harvest (a field full of good big roots) down to the nature of their Lincolnshire soil. I must say it looked like a fine crumbly loam

Tried to grow celeriac twice, both times a complete failure :(

Which is a shame, as they fit right in to my home-growing philosohpy: a food I love, one that is surprisingly expensive in the shops, and a veg that can be quite hard to find.
