Plug tomatoes (Revolutionary grafting process)
Anyone had any problems with Dobies plug tomatoes this year? Bloke on the allotment has never had any problems before growing tomatoes but this year he bought Crimson Cherry, Aviditas, Shirley & Gardeners delight all as plug plants (Revolutionary grafting process). All are healthy plants but fruit has only just set and the trusses are high up the plants and not many of them. Mine were grown from seed and are way ahead of these, yet his plug plants were 3 for £10

Not grafted plants, but some of mine have grown very tall before producing the first truss and others have got 3 leaf branches between trusses rather than the usual 2.  I'm just blaming the weird weather this year.

My toms are fine this year, grown from seed, had issues last year tho!

As regards to grafted, although ever slightly off topic I did an experiment last year whch I have to say made no difference what so ever

I took a side shoot of a tommy that was growing, rooted it and then when it was about a foot tall grafted that to the stem of the mother plant so in effect the mother plant had two root systems, logic being twice the nutrient uptake etc.

As I said, didnt really work, no difference!
