I'm looking to start and was wondering if anyone could tell me where to purchase chickens in the South Cumbria area?

Hi - I got my first hens from these people  http://www.aysidepoultryarks.co.uk - They're between Grange and Newby bridge, also do poultry courses.
Otherwise I have got them from occasional ads in the pets/farms section in the Westmorland Gazette

Thank you for that. I'll have a quick  look in The Westmoreland Gazette too. I notice that the link you gave me offered courses. Does anyone know if these are worthwhile attending?

I did do one of their courses before I started keeping chickens - at least I then knew how to handle chooks and that I was happy to!  There is a sticky on poultry courses so I think generally people feel they are useful
Further to your where to get? question, try also the breeders list on the poultry pages - there is someone in Penrith who has pure-breeds if that is the route you decide to take.
