If you're like me and don't have oodles of patience ::) the 99p shops sell compost accelerator for errm around £1, or if you know anyone with chickens,a thin layer of poo will do the same job.
If it were me, I wouldn't put any spuds in, just to be on the safe side.

anything organic will rot down eventually, so I see no reason to leave out cooked food. I don't put meat or fish in as this attracts vermin and deseased plant material gets burned first but then goes in. I have found that tomato seeds are virtually indestructable and I often find tomatoes coming up where I've spread my compost, but that's a bonus!  :)
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

Been asking about for a pigeon gfancier but cant one as of yet, but have noticed something that seemed unusual, there is a bottom on my compost bin, i thought is was supposed to be open to allow worms in

Slow (cool) compost can have bottoms open to allow in worms, but fast (hot) compost would only kill them. Also, a closed bottom prevents vermin from burrowing in under the bin.

................also prevents the escape of precious poo!

They certainly are - survive being eaten too! As kids we used to collect the 'wild' green tomatoes that used to grow from the heaps at the local sewage works and make chutney from them (I'm sure this is now a health and safety no-no).
