Small orange egg thingies on my.................
« on: April 24, 2009, 09:32 »

toilet roll tubes that my leek seedlings are in and on the soil of them too (they are in a cold greenhouse).

Only on two of them but they are all being binned!!

What's been on them?

Plus do garden centres sell leeks part grown later on in the year?

Help  :(

sounds like slug or snail eggs .....

No idea about the leeks - I've only ever used my own sown veg seed  ;)

They may be just harmless fungii of some sort.

Still in time to plant more seeds. You can plant them in the ground and then lift and plant into their final position in July. Garden centres will have leek plants.

Mmm it's not on anything else.

I've got some nemaslug in the fridge, I'm putting that down tomorrow, the greenhouse was put on gravel so anything could be in there I suppose.

Thanks both of you xx

Why don't you just rub them off like you would do with cabbage white eggs, killing the eggs and keeping the plants.

I have exactly the same thing on mine.I think you will find that it is the result of the cardboard tubes getting wet and probably causing a reaction with the glue or something similar. One things for certain, they are not insect eggs, but some form of fungus or similar. No need to throw them away.

I had all manner of fascinating fungi on my toilet roll tubes last year  but I ignored them and all the plants were fine   8)
