Is it worth a go?
« on: March 01, 2009, 21:42 »
Because i was lucky enough to get some free vivaldi spuds i have 5 of them too many for bed.
They are already well chitted, so if i put them in the greenhouse in a tub will they be ready before the toms want a lot of room? I've got a parafin heater so can keep them frost free (new toy )

You've nothing to lose by trying. If the toms need the space, you can harvest young small potatoes. And do watch for any signs of blight.

sounds like a good idea to use the space

If the spuds are not quite ready when the toms need to go in, could they go outside for a while ? back in for the night if its cold.

Swift are supposed to be ready in as little as 7 weeks don't know about vivaldi
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I had 5 swift,  so as a tester I put two in one bucket and three in the other and both buckets are in my unheated greenhouse, that was on 7th Feb.......nothing yet, but I might cover a circle of bubble wrap and see if that helps,

My carrots that are in there did nothing for a few weeks but when I covered them they were peeping at me in 4 days, I don't know if the bubble wrap helped or if they would have shown anyway without it.

I'm just playing around at the mo, I'm sure you'll have more success with your heater, mum's promised me her paraffin heater later this week.

My greenhouse is just frost free, I set 3 maris peer spuds in a large bucket on 26th January and there is still no sign of them, oh well

set short row of carrots, spring onions, little gems, radish and some rocket all up and looking good.

First sunflower just poking up

I bought a pack from poundland that comprised, tray, compost, clear lid and 100 marigold seeds. The other day I pricked out 100 plants and threw about 20 away. If i could remember how much they were I would know if they were good value :D :D :D :D :D

Is everything a £1 in poundland????????????????????????????????????????????
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

I think it's called joking, even when the joke is old, . . . very , very old . . .   :dry:  ::) :lol:
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

We have stores here called dollar stores that suggest they sell everything for one dollar. But when you look around, you'll find things priced at $1.50, $2 and $3. It's actually a misnomer and should be called dollars stores but the companies won't change them hoping to suck people in. They've started losing a lot of my business.
