Hi All,

I'm planning on putting in some fruit shrubs next year and was wondering about blueberries....

Do they grow well in the south east of England? Do they tolerate lots of shade?

They do indeed grow well in the south, as long as they have acid soil -- even do Ok in pots 

They will tolerate light shade but not full shade all day.

They will tolerate some shade (but will not do well growing under a tree canopy, for example.)

Most of all they must have ericaceous (acidic) soil conditions, whether grown in pots or in the soil, although as long as your soil is not naturally alkaline you should be able to get it in shape to be able to grow them.

Thanks chaps. I guess I need to investigate the pH of my soil.... And chop down the tree that shades out my entire garden! Tiiiiimmmmmberrrr!
