Brussels sprouts
« on: March 05, 2011, 23:31 »
This year I grew petit posy (well tried to  ???)
They are the smallest sprouts in the world, definately not a success.
So please can anyone recommend a sprout that is reliable, that you do not need a magnifying glass to find, and preferably will give me sprouts for Christmas.

Thanks

Elaine

I've grown 'Brilliant' for a couple of years now. Large sprouts, quite tall growing.

Supposed to be an early variety, but I was picking mine from October onwards and they stood all through the snow and ice fine. I was still picking them in early Feb  :)
Cheers, Comfortably Numb.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long ..........................

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Now aren't they the ones that aren't really supposed to be sprouts but are a cross between sprouts and kale. They are more for stir fries and colour than for sprouts. Or at least that's how I read the packet. But the instructions come the same as for growing sprouts - firm soil, neutral pH, plenty of compost or manure and feed well.
