Asparagus beetle larva are eating my Asparagus Foliage, anyone know of a decent spray to get rid of them?

The beetles I get are red with a bit of white rather the one in the pic here:

but the control is the same. Because asparagus foliage is so fine and ferny, it's difficult to spray things, so I've found the hand picking works best.

My little varmits are maggot like and grey/brown in colour. They are the larval stage. They look disgusting.

That's the stage to disrupt their change - rough up the soil around the plants and let the birds and predators find them.

I've found the beetles really tricky to pick off. As you go to pinch them, the little blighters see you coming & are really adept & nipping round to the opposite side of the stem.

I have had these every year since I put my asparagus in. I tried hand-picking but tbh I could have spent hours every day doing this and still not getting rid. In the end I resorted to 'Bug Clear' which was very effective and as long as you avoid spraying bees/ladybirds etc I think it's fairly benign environmentally.

I have a vague recollection of the best way to control aspargus beetle is at the end of the season cut down all you asaragus except one plant. All the beetles congregate on that one plant which you throw on the bonfire.
