A Newbie question
« on: June 08, 2009, 18:46 »
This is my first post, so forgive me if I have chosen the wrong forum.  Got our allotment 6 weeks, ago, very overgrown with brambles etc. as expected.  Cleared what we could with a scythe, and then waited two weeks for new growth to appear and used Glyposphate on bad areas. (Luckily quite a lot of allotment was still carpetted from previous owner, so have left that untouched for now).  Now the Glyposphate has worked, so wondering what to do next, whether to dig in what's been killed off, or rotavate.  Or should we wait a bit longer to see what happens.

Once we have either dug or rotavated it seems a bit late for much planting.  Would it be too late to put a clearing crop of maincrop of potatoes in, if I can get hold of any? If not, any other suggestions.

Thanks

The weed tops which have died off might still have live roots which could do with a bit more time. So, for now how about digging up a small area for your potatoes and get them in and see how it goes. It's impossible to get a whole plot such as yours cleared in a short time. Most of us spend years getting ours into shape and by doing it slowly, you save your back.
