Incy Humidity for the final 3 days?
« on: January 04, 2011, 18:51 »
Ive been reading up in various places and am getting conflicting info on incubator humidity for the final 3 days of hatching.

Some say keep it at 45 but in some places ive seen it reccomend as high as 80!  Now a friend who does alot of hatching just leaves his at 45 so i wondered what do the rest of you peebs do?

Probably opening a massive can of worms here!

I will just run the smae way as my friend as he always seems to have good hatch rates.

Min, I have a very basic small incubator, and have so far put up the humidity in the last 3 days to around 60-70 percent as that is what my book and the manual told me to do.  I have not had brilliant hatching rates, but my set up is very basic and humidity is controlled by blocking holes in the cover, I had to up the humidity that high by using a wick through one of the holes into a jug of water.
I did have better rates this year after I bought a hygrometer and kept my eyes on the humidity,it may also be better had I not lost electricity supply for 8 hours too!
Every piece of info I have read says to up the humidity, but the amount does seem to difer from anout 65 to 90 %
Also once the humidity is put up, the eggs should no longer be turned.
Sorry that I cannot really help more, but I am still experimenting!

I up'd mine to 55% when hatching chicks at back end of last year, 4 out of 4 hatched

Okey dokey folks I think I shall try the 55% humidity approach.

Im quite lucky as its all digitally controlled so just a case of pressing a few buttons to change things!
