I've never grown onions before. This year I grew some from seed. Just dug them up and they've got white rot. I've lived here 6 years and have new raised beds, where's it come from? And can I still eat the non rotten bits? Some of them have only got a bit of it on the basal plate. And others are well mushy. Drat.

ur stuck with it for many years to come .one way to try to get rid is to sow loads and loads of onion seed let it all come and then wait for the signs of the disease and take the lot up and burn. try doing this again in the later part of the season and then you can plant leeks or garlic in special holes which you dig and then put clean compost in. dont let folks wander round ya plot as its easy carried on ya wellies  n tools , n yeh u can eat n store the less damaged ones just use em up asap. freeze choped up onion bits .blanch n then dump in iced water
