After a quick google I found the below interesting fact if you are organic:

"try a nicotine spray made by boiling up fag ends, according to 'The organic gardeners handbook' it works on pea bean weevils and thrips, aphids as well as scale insects. Wear gloves as it apparently nasty smelly stuff."
1st year at 'proper' veggie gardening with 2x 12ftx4ft raised beds. loads of patio containers, 2 chickens and 1 ferret.

Youd end up with some very addictive peas
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Is that where all the leaves have been chomped? I have this again this year. I posted on here last year and was told it wasn't anything to worry about you won't get long term damage. This turned out to be correct and I had no problems once they got going so don't do anything hasty.  :)

It is the same pest. It is called the "pea and bean weevil" because they live specifically on legumes.  The weevil is tiny, it sits on the leaf edge and nibbles, as it does so the damaged area expands into the typical semi circlular chomp. This leaf edge damage is typical of all weevils.

The peas should grow away from the damage.

Why would anyone want to put their health at risk by using nicotine? Firstly, it is indisciminate and kills everything. Secondly it is linked with cancer. When it was in general use heavy protective clothing was needed as it penetrated the skin . It was one of the nastier chemicals that has thankfully been banned along with DDT and organo phosphates.

Thanks for that Salmo,
I have to point out that using nicotine sprays, homemade or otherwise is illegal and cannot be condoned by this site.

WOW!! I didn't no it was illegal???
I only copied and pasted the quote from google trying to help.
How can it be illegal?? your own peas, your own fags, your own magic spray?? and published in 'The organic gardeners handbook' ??

Regardless, forget the fag spray idea. dig them up and re-plant a main crop.

published in 'The organic gardeners handbook' ??
This book was probably published long before the recipes were banned ;)

You don't need to pull the peas up, as previously posted, they usually grow through to harvest with no ill effects.
The lower leaves may look a bit tatty but the good news is that my peapods have never been affected :)
