You're not allowed to do that anymore... Part P stops you.

If you're burying cable it should be SWA, and as its outside must be tested and certified by a qualified electrician.

Far be it from me to point out this nice orange cable at screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/prods/67695/Electrical-Supplies/Cable/Flex/3-Core/Tower-3-Core-Reel-Flexible-Cable-Orange-1-5mm-x-50m

its apparently to thick for the weather box i bought from b and q although it says it takes up to 12mm and i bought 3 core 10mm 2.5m internal armoured cable. When i took thid to our local electrician he recommended the hosepipe method.

Just a word of caution, all electrical work on garden lighting and power installations must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations; failure to comply is a criminal offence. If your system is not going to be erected or tested by a competant electrician who is registered under Part P self-certification sceme then you have to notify your local authority building control department before you begin.
I would talk to a pond supplier; there are specialist suppliers such as Greenbrook who market Armadillo outdoor systems. Blagdon is another supplier who market Powersafe a steel wire armoured cable garden power system. These are brand leaders supplying safe and legal products, which may cost a bit, but will give you what you need without this hassle.

u need SWA (steal wire armer) cable for anything outside the house, u will need 2.5mm cable for anything socket related. so u say the cable dose not fit? what dose not fit into the plastic hole with the gromit on it to power the supply in coming from the house, or the cable dose not fit coming out of the 5 holes which is the load? my dad is an electrishon and i have a lvl 1 n 2 in electrical instulashion so i am quite familer with the regalashions.

A friends pond pump used to short out the electrics every time it rained.
Mice had chewed off the insulation and one had got zapped doing it , you are bound to attract a few mice if you feed fish so SWA cable , strong junction boxes and safety trip is the way to go.

I just buried some water pipe under my path and got some 1.5 3core extension and run it through the pipe and into the shed supply ,i cant see a problem as long as you dont sell the house and leave the cable there if you rip it out before the next owner comes how can it be an issue for anyone but you

stands back and waits for the comments  hahahahahaha

... I think you better do a bit more studying then, as you're wrong on both accounts. But at least its safer than the OP electricians suggestion.

We've had these discussion before - other than giving the insurance people an excuse to not pay out (even if the claim is unrelated to the installation) its nothing more than job protection for sparkies. Some of the self cert'ed work I've seen has been literally criminal !
