thanks richyrich7, it just looked abit murky and I was worried it would go stagnant.
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.

Hi Lottigob frogs will find you!  There are probably loads of frogs in the garden and the area already.  They hide under bushes, stones and anywhere it's cool and damp and once they find you they never go far from 'home'.  There is a plant you can get which deals with Algae which spreads very quickly and once you have it you never need  to buy more.  It's like a tiny 4 leaf clover but I cant remember the name :( I'm hopeless with names.  As Richyrich says nature soon sorts things out but if you would like some of the plant let me know and I'll send some.
Grace :D

We have had our wildlife pond for 10 years and apart from clearing out overgrown plants weve never done anything else to it except top it up. Its crystal clear and has lots of things in it. I read somewhere that as a rough guide it should be a third covered (lily leaves etc) a third oxygenators and a third clear. The barley straw is a good idea. Eventually it will settle, dont be tempted to use chemicals. Good Luck
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

Thanks all for your experiences, the pond already looks a lot clearer (perhaps because not so sunny).  Thanks evie2, look forward to receiving your pond weed.
