What do you use for frost-free storage?
« on: January 03, 2010, 19:15 »
We gardeners are often told to over-winter certain plants or store produce (like spuds) in an airy, frost-free place.

I don't have too much choice in the matter but can say with certainty that my beloved and well-maintained shed is not frost-free! (my carefully dried off runner bean tubers which I buried in nearly dry compost to replant in late May as an experiment are currently frozen solid!)

How do others out there cope?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Our garage is OK for spuds.

Over winter plants go in the greenhouse with a slight bit of heating.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Brick leanto shed on the back of the house .It's got a proper tiled roof and comes with it's own WC :D It was frost proof all last winter, so I'm trusting it this as well

We use old Freezers, we got them for free from the recycle yard.

Spuds in sacs inside the freezer, others in sand or sawdust.

Leave the top open just a little, we keep the freezers in the barn.
