Savoy cabbage & Frost Question
« on: November 12, 2008, 08:32 »
Hi,
Have just finished the last of the white cabbage and pointed cabbage and still have plenty of Savoy left in the ground. Will I lose them to frost if I don't use them or give them away soon or will they be ok? Not due any frost yet I shouldn't think but still need to be prepared. Thanks :)

I find savoys quite frost hardy.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Savoys are frost proof so you can leave them in the ground all winter.

Here goes the old fogie bit. The only time I can remember them being frozen solid and spoiling was in the winter of 1963 when the temperature stayed below freezing day and night for 3 weeks. Almost unimaginable now.

That's not very far from me (Rainham Medway) woke up to glorious sunshine & blue skies so must have missed me

Least my Savoys are going to be ok when we do get some, which will be soon by the sounds of it  :(
