Anyone use this at all? I rather fancy trying making socca flatbread or maybe pancakes.
Only problem is I can't get it locally. Could buy online, but I'm guessing postage would be a bit steep.
I'm in Henley, so Reading is local. Health food shops? Indian supermarkets?
-
The bag in my cupboard has been there a while ... can't remember why I bought it originally and it doesn't get used very often.
You should be able to get it from any of the big 4, certainly Trashco do it.
-
I use it to make onion bhajis - but try to get a small bag because it seems to have a short shelf life, well Tescos stock of it does :(
It may be fresher from an Indian corner shop :)
-
Chickpea flour is found in Indian shops and some health food shops. It is also available from waitrose supermarkets and ocardo, they sell the dove farm brand. :)
-
It's called chickpea flour, or Besan or garbanzo depending on where you're shopping. You can get it everywhere. You're not looking properly :D
Pakoras are the thing to make with it at the mo as there are so many veg available.

Should probably add this to the "ways to dispose of your courgette glut" thread.
-
Morrisons do it too. Made some onion bhaji's with mine but loads left. Its getting a bit old though so I need to use it up. Courgettes sound pretty good and I could get rid of a few of those too.
-
Scribbler, all the large Tesco shops in Reading stock gram flour, as do all indian supermarkets.
Just be warned -- you need to add water slowly and beat like mad to make sure there are no dry lumps, or sieve it
-
So what you're all saying is I can't get out of my front door without a bag of gram flour falling on me....
Despite my best efforts to find some..................
Duh................

If the Tesco in Henley does't have it - not sure they have a World Food aisle  - the one by Reading bridge certainly does. It may be labelled Besan, but its the same thing :)

Sorry, not quite. ;) I'm going to buy some online when I remember to get round to it as there are a few recipes, bhajis being high on the list, that I want to try.

I just realised that Lardman has posted a link to a 'cookery demos' to one of my favourite on-line sites - Manjula's Kitchen. Great indian food ideas there!!!! :D :D :D :D

Im a big fan - but I do wish everything wasn't fried :(
-
There is a fair bit of fried stuff isn't there ::)
Everything I have tried so far has been very good though :D
-
I'll try Tesco's again later. This is what I'm after doing:

New Shoot:
Do you mean the 24-hour Tesco down Napier Road? Over the bridge and turn left at the roundabout?

I'll answer for her as she is at work -- yes that is the one. The one on Portman Road also stocks gram flour :)
-
Many thanks!!
-
I got Gram today from Twonko :) Allotment pakora for tea tomorrow :tongue2:
-
I watched the vegetable pakora video, visited the site and got the recipe this afternoon at work (don't tell anyone). I then came home and made some - fantastic.

Great to see that the word is spreading

I got my recipe from a Bengali lady. Easy to make and so tasty :tongue2:

The ones you brought when you visited the other week went down a treat with OH. I saved them and shared them with him when he got back from work. He was quite anxious that I have a go at making them ;)
-
Home made pakora is a main course at our house dished up with a crisp salad. Make the veg the star turn! That's my mantra :tongue2:
Also delicious with homemade chips and mayo at the same time but I'm trying not to go there. Sigh :nowink:

Have a look at the video Lardman has given the link to above, and you won't go far wrong.

I was watching Rick yesterday morning, in South India, and he was recommending the cabbage and potatoes fried with chopped coconut. I like the sound of that :tongue2:

It is exceptionally nice tbh
We have lamb with spinach tonight, with dry fried onion garnish, plain roti and yoghourt with mint, plus lime pickle :D :D You can tell I am not at work, can't you? ;) The lamb was in the reduced section so good value too :nowink:
-
I found this in the eastern food aisle of Traschos today - mine is split yellow pea flour.
Have used it for tonights lottie pakoras ;)

Too late  I got hooked quite a while ago and suscribe to her YouTube channel
-
Sounds lush  Which reminds me. I ordered lamb neck on my last Twonko order but I didn't get any. I bet I forgot to push the "add to basket" button. That's what you get when you do the order around midnight :nowink:
-
Lamb neck makes excellent curries too :(
-
I use lamb neck for a lot of things - especially lamb klefitico.
I don't like fatty meat but the thin fat in neck just dissolves on cooking with a nice flavour :)
-
It does. I make the NS mulled lamb recipe with it. Mmmmm kleftiko. I could eat some now :D
-
Oooh stop it you
two3!
I'm drooling now - and there's no lamb left in the freezer
-
and even if there was it would take ages to thaw, MoS
So it would be tomorrow before you could indulge. I ma sure you have something nice for dinner today, even if not lamb.
At least I hope so

Courgette pakoras went down a treat tonight. I got a couple, but OH happily wolfed the rest :D
