Hi gang, one of our girls has scaly leg mite and I've been treating it with vaseline, I've been treating it every other day but just doesnt seem to be clearing up fully... Any other idea's ? Someone has recommended dipping her legs in Surgical Spirit, what do you reckon ?

I used Net tex scaly leg spray and its doing the job

Surgical spirit would sting like mad on any broken skin and probably wont kill the mtes

Ivermectin is supposed to kill them too .... i have also tried this

Hi

I tried to use surgical spirits on my girls but it was awful, it was obviously very painful for them.  In fact I only put it on one leg and didn't have it in me to do the others.  I think the idea of using surgical spirits is to toughen the sick rather than kill the mites.

Another thing to try which worked for me was head lice lotion, but its not licenced so maybe I cant recommend it   Dermadex I think it was.......

I use Ivermectin and scaly leg spray and have never had any mite problems.
its easy to apply - about every 3months.
