Oh "Dear Me !!!"
« on: July 15, 2013, 14:59 »
My husband just smashed our cast stone fountain to smithereens, taking out a gorgeous old crown chimney pot at the same time, and fountain pump       I only nipped out with the dog and when I returned he had his head in his hands. I thought it had landed on his head!

I suggested we claim on our insurance but my husband daren't as he's only just taken out a new policy and he doesn't want to blot his copybook. Why bother I wondered but daren't venture to suggest  it as he was a bit prickly by this time  :D

This is the one

I'm going to see if we can just buy the base but I fear the worst  :nowink:

At least it didn't land on his head or this would be a very different post. Hope you manage to replace it.

Don't laugh, but is there any chance you could stick it back together, with that strong builders stuff (can't remember the name)?

If you still have the main bits, and can fix them back together perhaps a bit of filler with cement and sand colouring could fill in the smaller chips/holes. Then you could re-coat it with a stone finish paint, but of course, it won't look the same.

Might be preferable to another £600 pop, but poor you anyway!

I wondered about making a mould and creating a new base from concrete... That site says it's cast anyway.

It looks like three parts.  So could be fixable, even take it to a stonemason.  Often funeral places have stonemakers they know about.

Oh CQ, hugs from over here in the east!  What a terible thing to happen.  It was such a lovely thing too.  Tell hubby to claim on the insurance, or he coughs up for a new one!

Would be good if it was mendable, but you did mention the word smithereens   :( :(

Ouch! Poor you CQ. With that, the chimney pot and the fountain pump surely it would be worth a claim? That's what it's for isn't it?

Oh CQ - such lovely fountain. You must be really annoyed. I would agree with the others - try to claim on the insurance. Maybe when OH has calmed down a bit he will consider it.

Did he land his helicopter in your back garden to save paying landing fees CQ?

(Can't think how else one person could have caused so much damage in such a short time without damaging himself too!)  ::)
