its all mine (what have i done lol)
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:19 »
i posted a couple of days ago about whether to continue working my friends allotment or take a rather overgrown one in my own name.
well i opted for the one in my name and here are some pictures of it!
now i just keep thinking - oh my goodness what have i done!!!!!!
the area being fenced in is a child-proof area for my youngest and somewhere to keep the trailer. you can see the aged old caravan to the left which weve been told has to be moved up the back of the plot some time this year or stripped.
think i might have to take drastic measures with it and round-up the grass and then hire a rotavator - i diligently tried to dig some of the grass out yesterday (my preferred method) and the soil was so hard (it hasnt rained for over a month here) the fork was bending

Great to see the pictures - I think you made the right decision in the end as at least it is yours!  Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.

Good luck Annie - I'm sure it will all come together soon. Still plenty of time to get things sown.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Keep your spirits up and congrats!

You will definitely need to cover or kill the grass before it gets out of control.

I'm no expert at all on rotavating, but someone else will know whether you need to do any more preparation on the ground (e.g. dig) before you can use the machine.  Also, not sure whether they will work on really hard ground, hopefully someone else will know this too.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

What a great adventure, if it was mine I would.
1 Round up/weed killer the grass.
2 after it has gone dead fork over as best I can.
3 Rotavate until my back is killing me.
You don't have to take any notice of me.
The good thing is you have permission to have a caravans on site, I would love that.
Just dig a little bit and take it day by day.
They say potato's is good to start with or thick black sheeting.
I'm lost without my SatNav.

I'm sure by now, it will have rained. If not, then rest assured, IT WILL! ::) :D
Make the most of dry days, and continue the dig and clear method. By now, you will already be planning what to plant where? -  Get something in! ;) It will spur you on to watch things grow, whilst you continue to clear the rest of the plot. Good luck Annie.  :)
