Removing/Fitting a Spade handle
« on: November 08, 2009, 17:42 »
I'm in the process of salvaging an old but serviceable spade by removing the stub of the old handle with a view to fitting a new one.

I've chiselled away the wood to the first set of retaining pins.  These seem  to be joined so I'm note sure how to remove them from the shaft.  Maybe a silly question but any advice on how to do it would be appreciated.

I usually grind off one side of the pins, and then drive out the old pin with a pin punch. :)

Or drill one side then punch. Then you need a 6" nail for the new rivet. :)
