french bean varieties
« on: August 03, 2013, 00:39 »
Hi,
I am looking for a French bean variety that grows between 3-5ft. Are there any such varieties?

I've not come across any in the standard catalogues, I don't think.

You could always grow a climber and pinch it out at 5' if absolutely necessary.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The only one I've grown apart from dwarf is Blue Lake, but that''s up to nearly 6ft at the moment.  But like Yorkie said, you could always pinch them out at 5ft!?

I'm growing purple queen this year, a purple french bean that turns green when cooked.
They are a dwarf, but do need support, they have spread out well but only got up to 2 to 3 feet high
I have had an amazing yield so far from some in the ground and some in a 10inch pot.
They are extremely tatsty.

Steam them to retain the purple.

My amazon record tells me we are growing nautica  very impressed with them actually as they are beautifully sweet and great croppers.

Will grow them again without a doubt, mine are only dwarf though so none of that helped did it. Sorry  ???

We are growing The Prince dwarf French beans - very tasty but find if left too long (more than a baby size) they get a bit stringy.   They are slightly oval rather than round.   Produced great plants which are very healthy and vigorous.       Will follow on with Blue Lake and Purple Queen.
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.
