Ailsa Craig toms outdoors?
« on: May 27, 2011, 14:12 »
I got an incredible bargain at the Smallholders show at the weekend - a tray of 15 Ailsa Craig tomato plants for 3 quid. I've given quite a few away to friends, but I still have 5 left over and don't have enough space in the greenhouse for all of them.

Would they be OK outside (after being suitably hardened off, of course)?

yes, as long as we get some half decent weather this summer
(and that applies to any tomatoes outside ::))

Thanks again - I suppose I can always make green tomato chutney if we have another dodo summer.

All the varieties of "indoor" tomato plants I've grown over recent years have been quite happy outside. They've provided tomatoes after the greenhouse one have finished.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I never really think of tomatoes as being indoor or outdoor, just cordon or bush. And I grow both outside :)
