Last years leeks
« on: April 26, 2009, 17:57 »
I've just pulled a few for dinner and they hardly seem worth it. Thats a tea spoon for scale.

I've got another 20-30 in a 10x12 bed. Should I leave them as is. Will they fill out or should I pull them, dig the area over and get something more productive in the space?

I don't want to leave them in there taking up space if they're just going to run to seed.

If they're last years i don't think they'll get any bigger now they'll just run to seed. So out they come........you could freeze them to make leek and potato soup if you like it :)

.. I had a feeling that was going to be the answer  :( I did get them in late. The forecast is for rain all week so they have another 5 days to swell.

But then soup it is.

They look like what we call baby leeks in the catering trade. Still very nice to eat just blanch them whole for a few minute then a bit of butter on top with seasoning. Delicious!
