Help identifying plant please
« on: February 25, 2013, 11:21 »

Hey guys,

Waked past a shopping centre car park yesterday and they had the side planted up with this amazing green foliage. I would like some help identifying the plant so I can make use of it in my own garden.

Here's the pictures:

First one is the plant, second one is a closer picture of the leaves.

Additional information:

Plant is in the Manchester (UK) area, so I presume it is evergreen. There are no flowers or remaining seed heads as far as I could see. The car park was built around 2 years ago, which may give 'some' indication of the plants age.

Any help greatly appreciated!

- Gary.

It looks like a blackstem bamboo - I'd keep it in a tub as I think it's one of the ones that spread like crazy!

Yep, that seems to be the one! Will go give it a thorough research.

These forums are great, took 7 minutes to get the answer  :D

Many thanks!

Yep I've gone back after looking it up online and that's deffinately the one, thanks guys!

Although strangely its not the cane's I'm interested in, its the floppy, ruffled leaves that drew me to it in the first place. Just lovely. I can imagine a white flowered rambler or climatis growing up and through (or over) it to great effect.
