cutting and relocating raspberrys

Hi All, i have a rather large raspberry BUSH and want to dig it up and relocate it in to a line along a walled trellis as i hardly got any fruit and that i did see was so burried it rotted :) :)

Wait until all the leaves have fallen off and it's in dormant stage before moving it. Try to dig up enough rootball so the roots aren't too disturbed or chopped. Replant so the main horizontal root line is about an inch below ground level because as you've found, if planted too deep they'll rot.

Have the new area well dug, manured and add whatever you have to enrich the soil. Water well after replanting directly into the hole, then top with soil. You could try cutting back the canes a bit but if they're already dormant, there's little point.

You might want to think about buying new canes instead. Raspberries become less productive with age as they pick up viruses. How long has the current bush been in for? Do you know which variety. You could always thin out the current canes on the bush which might give you a crop next year while the new ones establish.
