My tomato plants are getting quite big, is it to early to plant they outside on the plot?

I would say it is too early.  Some very cold weather is forecast for next week, so I would hold on for a while.

Mine are in the greenhouse and the heater is in there to look after them on the cold nights ahead.

I sympathise as my window ledges and 2 tables are full of pots waiting to go outside
They'll be safer in pots than in the cold though..that's for sure

I have the same problem... What temperature would be the right one to put them out?

I put 15 plants out about 4 weeks ago now, they don't seem to be growing and have a purple stem but they also don't look like they won't make it, I should have waited I feel now but I think it would be a mistake to take them back indoors now, even with this upcoming frost.

The purple color is I think because they are bit cold.

A frost will surely finish them off. I'd get them back in if possible.

I don't like putting toms outside until you can guarantee an overnight temp of at least 55 F. This usually means well into June.
