will the really cold weather we had reduce the carrot fly's population?

some of the farmers locally say to put a really fine hose on a watering can and walk up and down the rows watering with paraffin.anyone heard of this?
its not something im going to try now enviromesh is available.

I guess smoking nearby on top of this prevention method really would wipe out the carrot-fly population!!

I think I will give it a miss!

Its the smell of my eye-brows being incinerated I'm not keen on!

I also think I'd sooner cut out the damaged bit of the carrots and share with carrot fly rather than douse the lot in parafin. Perhaps it was liquid-parafin?
