strawberry(s)
« on: June 02, 2010, 20:41 »
I have two  strawberry plants at plot and one of them is bearing loads of (really loads) of fruit. they dont get any mollycoddle at all and today after lot of thinking I threw a net on it. I noticed the fruits are touching the ground.
Should I do anything or just leave it as it is?
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

No keep them off the ground or they will rot/slugs will eat them.
Ideally use straw or make some mats. I am experimenting with sieved shredded wood and thick paper.

If- I get any fruit on mine, I'm going to use a mat of weed control fabric.
My dad reckons his uncle used to put a jam jar on each one to ripen them quicker and stop birds.

Jam jars being a mini cloche I suppose Brownp, but large jamjars or small strawberry plants :)

jam jars over each berry not plant - so not many berries perhaps? More like individual greenhouses.
