advice on compost please

I constructed a manure bin from pallets, layering the bottom with a membrane as there may be a problem with couch and horestail in the only part of my new plot i can place it (although as yet i havn't found any, anywhere on the plot)

would it be best to place it directly on the ground?

Welcome digger ray

Direct on the ground sounds okay to me.  Unlike a compost heap, a manure heap doesn't require a big air supply.

Hi

I was told it's better to have it on well-drained ground so that worms and other insects can get in and help with the composting process. My garden is mainly clay so I have little drainage.  To combat this I laid twigs, from when I trimmed the shrubs and trees,  at the bottom to create drainage but still allows my wormy friends to get in.  They will take about two years to compost.

I also chuck in egg boxes and scrunched up paper to create air pockets as the micro-organisms will need oxygen to do their job.  Despite my lack of drainage my bin is composting nicely!

Edited to add:  Didn't read your post properly, hence the composting advice you don't need!  My apolofies

Welcome digger ray
I agree with everything mentioned but I would also recommend covering the top with something like an old piece of carpet to keep the rain off and heat in.
