can i keep it in a big pot

I hope so I put mine in one yesterday!  The pot is about 3 feet wide and similar depth.  I intend to put it in the garden at some stage but I haven't got any room!  I know that I didn't need it but it was a bargain.

I'm not sure about putting it into a pot permenantly.  I bought a Stella two years ago as a bare root specimen and dug it into my allotment plot.  We then decided to swap plots, so I dug up my gooseberry bushes and my cherry and apple trees.  There wasn't a lot of root (there was more on the gooseberry), and I've replanted them in my new plot.  I'll know in a month's time whether I've suceeded.  So I would think it should be ok for a couple of years.  Whether over years, it will become root bound I don't know.  But one thing to bear in mind, is the size of roots depends on the height of the tree, in other words, if your tree is 25ft high the roots will average 25ft in length.

I have a stella and it is 15-20ft high. BUT I have no idea what rootstock it is on and no idea what rootstock yours is on.
Anyway that you can find out.

Equally even if in a big pot the pot should limit it's growth (shades of bonsai)
You would have to supply a feed at regular intervals and renew the compost every so oftan. But cannot see why it wouldn't work.

Give it a go and see what it is like in 5 years
