One of the National Trust properties down here- cant remember which - has a tea plantation so it must grow here.

Never heard of coffee being grown here other than chicory in war time

Tea is related to camellia so I guess it might like acid soil, and plenty of water. A way to go before there are enough leaves to harvest though

Coffee takes a long time to germinate (several months I think) and the plant likes warmth and humidity, as well as growing really fast. I htink you can get flowers after about four or five years.

Good to try new thinsg though -- a  thoughful present  :D

Did I read the article right?  Did it take 6 years before the first harvest???  That is an investment!  I'd be interested to hear how the coffee plant copes - not much of a tea person myself, but cannot exist without coffee!!!
