I have had a go, but it wasn't very successfull.  Year before last I had about twenty plants but with the May being extremely wet they rotted from the root up.

IMO you probaly need to grow they in the greenhouse and they take up a lot of space if they grow to full size - yeilds apparently aren't that good either.

Good luck if you try - ley me know how you get on.

As for cooking them - they are great in stews and curries, but can also be eaten steamed as you would mange-tout

Not grown them yet.

But my favourite recipe for them is to steam for about 5 mins first. Then saute with plenty of garlic and a mix of spices for a few more mins (I tend to use ground cumin, coriander and chilli)  - and finish with a squirt of lemon juice and some fresh leaf coriander at the end.

Have tried these three years in succession in conservatory or greenhouse, with almost no success. Did get two pods one year, but that was it. I got good sized plants which then stalled and had leaves falling off, so perhaps too wet or too dry?

Anyway, given up now, so good luck to you!!

Okra tougher than aubergene i presume. me failed last year miserably but put it to too late sowing and dont know how to do it. But when i visited my mum in india she was struggling with okra too. she had two pods for the whole lot. and I thought it is wise not to try and waste any time this year.
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

It is the nature of the beast!! I have sowed okra  after reading this post and now it is potted and in the plastic shelf greenhouse thingy. They havent died yet. I told my OH that dont bother about getting any okras but their flowers are brilliant. Wait and watch!
They are not going into plot. They will be in the garden and in the flowering pots.
